The United States (US) technology giant Apple has certainly released the iPhone 14. Rumors about the device have been circulating, and as usual, they have never confirmed the truth. However, for this year, it is expected that there will be a significant increase compared to the time of the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13.

Apple has a regular routine. They stick to a clear pattern for iPhone releases every year. Major launch events always take place in September and generally fall at the beginning of the month, usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday. For this year it is estimated that the event will take place on Tuesday, September 13, or Wednesday, September 14. Then, it will be followed by iPhone 14 pre-orders on Friday, September 16. The Tim Cook-led company is also likely to hold additional events in October or November for other devices. So, it is expected that the event will be confirmed on 6 or 7 September 2022.

Information about the upcoming iPhone 14 Max has started to emerge, one of which will feature a 60Hz LTPS display as Samsung is Apple's sole supplier for 120Hz LTPO. However, recent industry developments suggest that may not be the case again.

According to a report, Apple finally has enough wiggle room to equip the iPhone 14 Max variant with a 120Hz LTPO display. The news came a few days after LG Display succeeded in producing a 120Hz LTPO display panel and received a sizeable order from Apple.

The technology giant, headquartered in Cupertino, United States, in the past had to use a 120Hz display exclusively from Samsung, which monopolized the issue. With LG's entry into the Apple iPhone display supply chain, Samsung's monopoly was effectively broken, giving Apple some wiggle room for negotiations.

Previous leaks mentioned that the iPhone 14 Max (not the iPhone 14 Pro Max) will replace the iPhone 14 Mini and be equipped with a large 6.7-inch 120Hz LTPO display. The screen will be the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max and will be a cheaper alternative.

Another leak is that the iPhone 14 series will come without a SIM card slot and be replaced with an eSIM—a digital model for activating phone plans without having to use a physical SIM card. Earlier reports said the iPhone 15 Pro would be the first to remove SIM card support, but MacRumors is now reporting the iPhone eSIM will be released as early as 2022.

According to the documents, Apple appears to be working with major United States carriers to prepare users for an eSIM-only iPhone. The claimed deadline of September 2022 seems to indicate that some variants of the iPhone 14 will ship without a SIM card slot, but there is no concrete evidence to support this speculation yet.

Even if the iPhone 14 loses the SIM card slot, Apple will likely still sell variants with physical slots in countries where eSIM is not yet widely adopted. The iPhone 14 series will likely be powered by a 4nm chip and at least three models are rumored to have 120Hz screens.
